As we have a small kitchen and limited serving space, there is a swift turnaround to lunch service. For this reason these times are strictly adhered to.
Naomi came up with the idea whilst studying Culinary Arts Management at UCB to sell a healthy variety of porridges to all the morning commuters. The name Morridge was decided as a hybrid between 'porridge' and my last name 'Morris'.
I renovated an old tea-tricycle and set up a pop-up stand in Great Western Arcade for 6 months. I was completely blown away by the response and feedback- but very soon outgrew the space!
James- my brother was living in London and working at Monmouth Coffee Company, developing a real passion for making coffee and sourcing fair trade beans.
James came on board and joined as my business partner, with his passion for coffee and a sound business brain. We ventured onto the next chapter to open a cafe, a dream for both of us- in our home city of Birmingham. 🐂
After many legal hurdles, we finally got the keys to 14 Temple Row in an area we knew with lots of offices and students close by...
THEN the pandemic hit. And all we could do was keep our heads down and adapt as everyone stayed inside and worked from home!
Like all small businesses we still struggled with the rise in costs- but our ethos remained the same. Quality, and comfort.
We finished renovating the upstairs seating area with our love for 60's & 70's culture. Expanded our menu to include a lunch offering, our team grew with supervisors and full time staff.
You may not see us as much on the shop floor- but we are always working behind the scenes. We always strive to provide a fair and fun working environment, and our team put so much into this little dream of ours.
We hope when you walk in the door at Morridge you can feel a personal touch, from 2 local siblings. We are proud to bring something unique to Birmingham 💛
